RevUnit had an award-winning company culture. We wanted to capture that culture to share with new employees right off the bat and give them a memorable first experience of our brand.
I worked closely with the HR/People team at RevUnit to create a consistent, memorable onboarding experience for new employees – all wrapped up in a box.
RevUnit is a data technology studio where I led a marketing team. A national (Inc. Best Workplaces) and local award-winner and unofficial coolest company culture in the area, RevUnit sets the standard on employee experience. After doing some research, we found that a structured onboarding experience can help increase retention in the first year.
Working with the People team, we set out to create a memorable moment in the first few hours of an employee’s first day. We wanted to share our unique company culture with new teammates, while also guiding them on their (sometimes daunting) first day. And so the onboarding box—or launch kit—was created.
Inside the first layer of the kit, employees would find a “blueprint” of each of our offices with locational tips, a mug with our mantra, a “map” with the basic guiding principles from the handbook and tips from other RevUnit employees, and a hand-written note from their manager. In the second layer, they would find a t-shirt, stickers, a notebook, a book based on their role, and of course, their computer (pre-loaded with all the information and software they’ll need to get started on their first day).
This kit not only leaves a lasting impression about our culture at RevUnit, but it also sets an employee up for success in their first few moments.
